Yoga for Autism Certification

These are trainings designed to provide essential yogic techniques and teachings needed to instruct individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders as well as their families and support staff. At the completion of both courses, participants will earn a certificate for 100 hour of continuing education with the Yoga Alliance.

Sharon created these out of love for her daughter and a deep passion for yoga. Sharon saw how yoga benefited her child and herself and wanted the autistic community and their families to benefit from these teachings. Sharon shares her inspiration through real-life experiences and strives to help the autism community in any capacity she can.

Part A: Yoga for Autism

This 50-Hour continuing education course was designed for yoga instructors as well as other professionals working with the autism community, such as, physical therapists, occupational therapists, special needs teachers and others working with the autistic population.

What to expect

  • Information on autism and how to teach Samadhi Spectrum class
  • Yogic topics covered specific to autism, which includes but not limited to asana, pranayama, energy work, diet, nutrition, anatomy.
  • One-on-one attention from instructors
  • Small classroom setting
  • How to create a personal practice
  • A structured and relaxed atmosphere that encourages open dialogue and sharing

Sharon Manner | Founder of Ashrams for Autism and Samadhi Sun Yoga School

With 35 years of yoga and mediation practice, Sharon Manner has experience first hand how the  yogic lifestlye helps to reduce stress and improve health. For the past 11 years, inspired by parenting a 24 year old daughter with Autism, she has developed and presented programs exclusively tailored to benefit individuals with autism , their families and professionals that support them. To date, Ms. Manner’s work has positively impacted the lives of thousands of adults and children throughout the United States and Canada along with more than 150 individuals  trained to bring these programs into their schools and community organizations that serve individuals with autism.

Margabandhu “John” Martarano | Master Herbalist, Nutritional Expert, Director of IYI Fairlawn
Margabandhu has served as the Director of the Fairlawn, NJ Integral Yoga Institute for more than 35 years. Margabandhu accepted the position at the request of Sri Swami Satchidananda, then founder of IYI. He is a Senior Certified Integral Yoga Instructor, proficient in all aspects of Yoga, having received instruction and guidance directly from Gurudev.

Margabandhu is a Certified Massage Therapist, specializing in Accupressure and Reflexology. He is also a Master Herbalist and studied with many noted experts, including, Viktor Kulivinkas, Smoky Santillo and Dr. Ralph Dale.

Part B: Managing Stress Through Yoga and Mindfullness

This 50-Hour continuing education course was designed for yoga instructors as well as other professionals working with the autism community, such as, physical therapists, occupational therapists, special needs teachers and others working with the autistic population.

Learn advanced mindfulness and stress management tools to help support families of individuals with autism and other special needs. Participants with learn how to guide parents and professionals who work with people on the spectrum to use mindfulness techniques. This course is also designed for parents of individuals with special needs who seek a mindfulness approach to creating balance and harmony in the home environment. You will gain tools and techniques that will encourage wellness and healing to improve the quality of life for the entire family.

Since 1993, Dr. Marc Rosenbaum, founder and director of Education for Excellence, has presented social/emotional learning programs to more than 5000 New York City public school parents, teachers and administrators. He has authored the course texts and curriculum guides Masterful Parenting (the book your parents had read), El Arte de Ser Padres, Masterful Parenting (creating meaningful connection with your child) and Education for Transformation.
